The findings of the National Family Health Survey-5 (NFHS-5) were released on November 24, 2021.

Findings on Women in Uttar Pradesh

According to NFHS-5, 1.1% of women in urban areas and 1.7% of women in rural areas were screened. Thus, rural women performed better in terms of awareness and screening of cervical cancer.

Breast screening for cancer was only 0.4% of women (aged 30–49 years) in rural and urban areas surveyed.

Overall, 34.8% of married women aged 18–49 had experienced marital violence.

In urban areas this ratio was 32.7% while in rural areas it was 35.5%.

Sex Ratio

NFHS-5 found that the sex ratio in the state has improved. The sex ratio of the total population in NFHS-5 is 1017 while in NFHS-4 it is 995.

India has reached a total fertility rate (TFR) of 2.0 in NFHS-5, while it was 2.2 in NFHS-4.

Contraceptive use has increased from 53.5% to 66.7% in NFHS-5.
